What a Pietersen

Pietersen has resigned as England cricket captain and the coach, Peter Moores, has been sacked by the ECB. The reasons? Well Pietersen doesn't like playing cricket with Peter and obviously the ECB doesn't like playing with either of them. Pietersen is quite happy playing with himself apparently. No time for the "wanker" comments to start flying or anything about ego. "How do I love thy? let me count the ways, 4, 6, 4 6, 6,6 ahhhhhhhhh".

Now Pietersen does like playing cricket with Shane Warne, his only friend when not stroking his ego friend. Pietersen wanted Shane Warne as England cricket coach, Shane Warne wants lots of money and fish & chips and the ECB would rather bathe in baked beans than be seen wanting his great fatness.

Shane Warne, a man blessed with the "golden bollocks" as the great England fast bowler Bob Willis would describe Ian Bothams ability to turn a game, can pack more drama in his playboy jocks than neighbours can in a year. Shane Warne is only interested in, Shane Warne, Advanced hair studios, tits, mobile phones, baked beans, egg and bacon baps, cheese sandwiches and being king of the world.

Pietersen had the right idea, get a coach who was born to win, combine with a captain who believes he was born to greatness, bring the rest of Warnes coaching staff from the Rahjastan Royals, Darren Berry & Jeremy Snape, turn the England team into an exciting and aggressive cricket team looking to chance their arms at all costs for a win. I think this is Pietersen's problem, rather than be this kind of leader himself and challenge others around him to join his ideals for the future, he would rather take the shortcut and bring in a packaged product and take all the glory. He has not learnt that hard work and foreplay is what is required for sustained greatness, not the occasional wank in front of the mirror.

The problem with Pietersen as captain is that it is never his fault. "The batsmen left me down - er the team down today". Spreading the field in the final innings and letting India make 380 to win was a bit like watching Ricky Ponting sometimes trying to figure out how to set fields. You can't blame the coach for a lack of 'tactical guidance' in these circumstances. You are the captain on the field, surely you need to determine tactics to win a game. Better yet, you are in a position where it is difficult to lose a game, but Pietersen still managed to find a way - much like England teams of old. What he needs to realise is that, as a captain, he is the same as what he is trying to change. Defensive fields translate to the team that this is how you play. Wild drives and hoikes when you are batting are not considered courageous when the team is 4 for 35.

We will read about in his new autobiography "Why I can't win every game on my own" which, I'm sure is soon to follow.

The Australian cricket captain is a Greek ferry captain in disguise

The Australian cricket captain is a Greek ferry captain in disguise. The recent loss to South Africa was very much a case of downstairs watching the football drinking ouzo as the boat crashes into the rocks. All the passengers can see it’s going to crash and want to steer the boat to safety, as it looks pretty easy from the armchair with a beer in hand, “can’t be that difficult” they say, as the boat crashes, the lifeboats don’t deploy and the captain stands on the heads of his crew to avoid getting his hat wet. Then at the press conference, the Captain’s not sure what went wrong, promptly blames everyone else and refuses to admit we crashed at all as it was pretty dark out and even if we did crash it wasn’t my fault.

The losing is not the worst part of tragedy (shut up, the cliché puns will be thick and fast), but now having the honour of holding the top 2 places for losing sides in record run chases (one with Stuart “I’m the second best bowler in the world” MacGill and now one with Jason “Centurion” Krejza. 12 for 600 is crap in any language, even Greek. Bowlers that go for more than 4 an over in the fourth innings are 1990’s English All-Rounders. You know the type, “the next Botham” is the usual tag in the papers but little talent. The theory was that if you could not bowl and could not bat, you were an all rounder in the English team. I may save listing them all for another article. BUT The worst part is the fact that we lost to the team that continually sing that Queen song after close finishes…. “We are the Chokers…”. A team that has been able to choke so well that is has taken the mantle away from England as the champions of panic. How did we lose to them? Where was Alan Donald to run himself out when it mattered? Why couldn’t we get one more wicket to get Boucher to the crease to bring the team within sight of victory and then cock it up. You can’t lose to South Africa – simple as that.

Ricky Pontoulas must go. Bring back the Fat one I say!

Snow? Snow, Call this snow...

When I was a boy snow was 45 feet high, colder than a glacier and filled with rusty nails.
